Required Supplies for English 11:
11th Grade English Department Summer Reading Assignments
Read the book or books listed for the class you will be taking next year. Come to school prepared to discuss and write about important ideas from the text. You will be tested on these books during the first week of school. We strongly encourage all students to read at least one additional book of your choice over the summer.
College Prep: Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates
Honors: Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates and one additional nonfiction text of your choice
AP Language and Composition: Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates, Gilead by Marilynne Robinson, and one additional nonfiction text of your choice
If you will not have hard copies or digital access to your summer reading book(s) when you come to school in September, make sure to take notes that include some quotations from the texts along with your reactions and reflections to bring to school with you. If you have purchased your own copy of the book, mark it up as you read. Underline powerful lines and include your thoughts in the margins.
